Tyson Fury will face Anthony Joshua this year, coach Spencer Brown told S.K Sports.
Brown is also the promoter for Fury’s return match against Arslanbek Mahmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Fury’s win over Makhmudov could set him up for his long-awaited showdown with Joshua.
“Let’s go. Boxing is in a very special place right now,” Brown said. sky sports. “It would be amazing. It would be the boxing World Cup final for me anyway.”
“We’ve wanted it for a long time and now it’s time. If he (AJ) warms up it will take another two months but we’ll see it this year.
“I think so.”
Fury and Joshua are closing in on what will be one of the biggest fights on the planet. But it hasn’t been created yet.
If Joshua starts rowing first, the wait could be even longer. Joshua, who beat YouTuber Jake Paul in a December bout, is recovering from a car accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
“I don’t think what AJ went through and what he saw is necessarily next,” Brown said.
“I think he has to make two decisions: go in and have a warm-up fight, and he has to pick the right opponent.
“AJ does that or says: ‘I’ve warmed up, I’m going into camp, I’m going to do my best to beat Tyson Fury.’ Then we continue. We are all done.
“(Fury thinks) ‘I’ll be there whenever you’re ready. No problem.’ “It won’t be a problem.”
Brown added: “But do you wait and wait and wait? There are times when we all know when the ingredients are ready and ready. There were appetizers and now let’s have the main course and finish.
“It’s up to him. He warmed up with Jake Paul. This is a different kind of warm-up for Tyson. This is a potential banana skin.”
He will hope that Makhmudov does not derail their plans. “This is a very, very tough fight. This is a guy that can punch, this is a guy that can knock you out and he’s proven that. He’s got a great amateur record, he’s strong, he wrestles, he wrestles bears,” Brown said.
“This is his World Cup, this is his world title, this is where he comes back and changes his life.”
Will AJ be attending the Mahmudov fight?
Promoter Spencer Brown invited Joshua to Saturday’s event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“A million percent. We invited him. We figured he’d probably be there. I think AJ would be there, I think Usyk would be there,” Brown said.
