
Benin has appointed famous American filmmaker SPIKE LEE and his wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, as an American ambassador in the United States.
The couple is a “subject” ambassador, and is expected to raise awareness and support initiatives to promote the relationship between African people and Benin.
The agreement reported last week in the French public broadcaster’s RFI report while visiting Cotonou, the capital of Benin.
The government said, “It will help people from Africa around the world to reconnect historical, cultural and spiritual roots.
The African state has presented some initiatives that encourage African -born people to regain their legacy and pursue qualified citizenship.
Last year, the government passed a law of providing nationality to those with African ancestors brought from home as part of the Atlantic Trade Trade.
The appointment of the Ambassador has recently followed the launch of a website where the descendants of the slave African can apply for citizenship.
According to RFI, Tonya Lewis Lee has received a favorable response by one of the hundreds of people.

SPIKE LEE previously said that DNA analysis tracked his father’s lineage with Cameroon and his mother’s roots were from Sierra Leone. His wife’s particular state was not disclosed.

Benin’s coastline is once a part of what is once known as the Slave Coast. It is a major starting point for slave African people who crossed the Atlantic across the Atlantic.
The kingdom of WHYDAH, a major slave center in the coast of Bengin, between 1580 and 1727, is estimated to have been exported to more than a million African people, the United States, the Caribbean and Brazil.
