St. Kitts Tourism Board holds airlift talks with major airlines at Routes Americas

St. Kitts tourism and aviation leaders used this year Routes Americas conference in Rio de Janeiro Pursuing new air service opportunities and strengthening relationships with many of the region’s most important airline partners.

Senior delegations from the destinations held meetings throughout the conference focused on expanding flight numbers and improving existing routes as part of broader efforts to maintain robust air access to the Caribbean island.

The mission focused on identifying additional flight opportunities and strengthening current airline relationships as the destination strives to maintain momentum in the North American and regional travel markets.

Officials said the meeting also looked at ways to optimize existing routes and ensure St. Kitts remains a competitive destination within the southern hemisphere air network.

The delegation gathered leadership from the island’s tourism and infrastructure agencies, including: Deputy Minister of Tourism Tivanna Wharton; Kelly Fontenelle, Chief Executive Officer of St. Kitts Tourism Board; Adeola Moore, Chief Executive Officer, St Christopher Air and Marine Port Authority; Calvin Duggins, Chief Operating Officer, St. Christopher Air and Marine Port Authority; and Candice Kimmel, airlift consultant for the St. Kitts Tourism Board.

The group worked jointly to present the destination’s infrastructure, tourism needs and marketing plans to its airline partners.

The meeting in Rio was designed to align the tourism board’s marketing efforts with airport and infrastructure plans, according to officials.

Representatives of the St. Christopher Air and Marine Port Authority have participated in discussions with airlines to assess airport readiness and operational opportunities associated with new or expanded routes.

Tourism officials emphasized that direct engagement with airlines at events such as Routes Americas plays an important role in maintaining air connectivity to Caribbean destinations.

“These discussions were essential to maintain the destination’s momentum and ensure that St. Kitts remains a priority for major airlines across the hemisphere,” officials said.

During the conference, Kelly Fontenelle, CEO of St. Kitts Tourism Board I also participated in a panel discussion focused on air connectivity across the Caribbean.

A session titled “Caribbean Spotlight” The meeting, moderated by aviation strategist Robert Kokonis, brought together tourism and aviation leaders to discuss strengthening regional aviation networks.

Fontenelle emphasized the importance of collaboration between Caribbean destinations and airline partners to sustain tourism-driven economies.

“Attending Routes is always a valuable opportunity for St. Kitts,” Fontenelle said. “This has allowed us to communicate directly with our airline partners, explore new route possibilities and strengthen the connections that bring visitors to our shores.”

She also emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and innovative airline partnerships in expanding connectivity to the Caribbean.

Positioning for future growth

Routes Americas is one of the aviation industry’s leading gatherings where tourism boards, airports and airlines negotiate routes and discuss market opportunities.

Officials in St. Kitts said the meeting was part of an ongoing strategy to expand airlift while strengthening relationships with existing airlines serving the destination.

The island is currently served by several North American airlines, and tourism leaders continue to prioritize air connectivity as a key driver of visitor growth.
