Jan Brueghel beat fellow Irishman Illini to victory at the Betfred St Leger in Doncaster as Aidan O’Brien secured his first two wins.
Following the success of the Continuous 12 months ago, the Ballydoyle masters have now won the world’s oldest Classic on eight occasions.
He had a straight of aces heading into the home game, with Illinois’ Grosvenor Square and Jan Brueghel leading.
Grosvenor Square passed the two-furlong pole, where Illinois and Jan Brueghel, the 11-4 joint leaders, took the lead.
And in the end it was Jan Brueghel, teaming up with former Ballydoyle apprentice Sean Levey, who emerged as the strongest player to win by a hair’s breadth and extend his unbeaten run to four.
More to come…
