- More than 2,000 people across the United States have been diagnosed with the parasitic Cyclospora infection, according to the CDC and state public health officials. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has reported more than 1,500 cases as of July 10. Case numbers across the country may continue to rise dramatically.. - Named by the Food and Drug Administration Donna Garren has been appointed as the new director of the Office of Production Safety.. Garren most recently served as Vice President at the American Frozen Food Institute. The Produce Safety Authority’s core mission is to prevent foodborne illness and microbial contamination throughout the growing, harvesting, packaging and storage of fresh fruits, vegetables and processed plant products.
