Hull FC and Catalans Dragons recorded morale-boosting wins in their Super League clash on Saturday.
Two tries to Ethan O’Neill helped Hull end a four-game losing streak at the expense of bottom-placed Huddersfield Giants thanks to a 36-12 win.
And in France, the Dragons avenged their crushing defeat against Wigan in Paris last weekend by beating Castleford Tigers 34-28 for their second win in five games.
Huddersfield remained top of the table with just two wins all season, while Hull moved up to ninth place after overtaking Castleford. This is one step behind the Catalans.
Hull arrests are sluggish, but there’s no rest for the Giants
Huddersfield traveled to the Humberside with a much worse performance than the home side, who had not won since April 4, and Oliver Russell’s early score proved a false dawn.
The first half was tight, but home tries from Logan Moy and Jake Arthur gave Hull a 12-6 lead before Huddersfield unraveled after the break.
Arthur’s kick sent O’Neill through for his first try of the season, and the forward’s second came later in the game after Amir Bouruh burst in from dummy-half on the hour and Harvie Barron also crossed.
Aidan Sezer kicked 12 points and a late Giants rally provided consolation for Connor Wrench.

“At half-time we were in a good position and competed decently, but mentally we gave up on the game,” said Huddersfield coach Jim Lenihan, who is still looking for his first win.
“We’re working hard, it’s really hard work, but other teams are working harder than us right now. We have to be in the game mentally as much as we are physically.”
