Super League: St Helens have hit back at claims they reported Wakefield to the RFL and rejected an offer for Harry Robertson. rugby league news

St Helens have denied claims by Wakefield Trinity that the Saints rejected their bid for the Harry Robertson centre, and have reported the matter to the RFL’s compliance department.

Earlier this week, Wakefield manager Daryl Powell said he was a fan of Robertson before insisting it was “true” that Saints had rejected a bid for the 20-year-old.

Robertson is contracted to St Helens until the end of the 2028 season, but in a strongly worded statement released on Friday, the Saints hit back, insisting they would not consider any offer for Robertson.

Robertson has been named in Brian McDermott’s 38-man training squad for the Rugby League World Cup.

“Contrary to what Wakefield Trinity have publicly stated in relation to Harry Robertson, a player who has signed a long-term contract with St Helens, the club has not received any communication or communication from Wakefield Trinity. We will not entertain anything,” a St Helens spokesman said.

“We have reported this matter to RFL’s Compliance Department for review and, where warranted, appropriate action will be taken.”

Robertson had a breakout year in 2025, his first full season with the Saints. He was named Young Player of the Year that season after the center scored 16 tries and seven more.

He was named in Brian McDermott’s 38-man England training squad last week following a promising start to the 2026 season, so Powell, who is on the lookout for a new outside back, said his club had set their sights on Robertson.

Asked to explain the rejected proposal, Powell said, “There’s nothing to be precise about, that’s the truth.

“We made an offer and the Saints rejected it. It’s up to them. We really like him. We think he’s a high-quality player.

St Helens’ young star Harry Robertson is a guest on The Bench this week alongside Jenna Brooks and Jon Wilkin.

“Outside back (priority), we are pretty flexible. Prati (Oliver Pratt) is a really good winger and potentially a centre, so we have been looking at outside back, center and wing as options for next year.

“We are still keeping a close eye on him and are eager for Harry, but we will see what happens.”

Saints will be hoping to move above Wakefield in the Super League standings with a win against Bradford on Saturday evening. Sky Sports+ live broadcast From 8pm.

Paul Rowley’s side are currently level on points with Trinity but sixth on points difference.

Meanwhile, Wakefield face bottom-placed Huddersfield Giants on Sunday. Sky Sports+ live broadcast From 3pm.
