Hull City announced that supporters were arrested after shouting discriminatory slogans during their FA Cup fourth round match against Chelsea.
After aggressive chants were heard from the home stands in the first half, a warning was issued over the PA system urging supporters to stop and reminding them that CCTV was in operation.
The second half was followed by another announcement containing confirmation that an arrest had been made.
Hull warned fans before the game that “any chants of a homophobic, racist or discriminatory nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated within the MKM Stadium.”
“Any supporter found to have engaged in such conduct will face serious consequences, including immediate expulsion from the stadium, possible banning order and possible criminal prosecution.”
Sky Sports News Humberside Police has been contacted for comment.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Hull City manager Sergei Yakirovic said: “I didn’t hear (the chants). This is definitely not the place, either on the pitch or in public. It’s definitely not good.”
“The stadium is not that kind of place and that is why they are being arrested.”
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior added: “Discriminatory language in any form is unacceptable without me knowing what happened.”
“I hope it works out. The fourth official mentioned something to me, but I was too focused on the game. I honestly don’t know what happened there.”
