sky sports cricket Pundit Nasser Hussain has reflected on England's qualification to the Super 8s stage of the Men's T20 World Cup and said who he is backing to advance to the semi-finals ahead of Wednesday night's clash with the West Indies.
England have probably played the least amount of cricket in this tournament. But the important thing was getting through Super 8.
They are world champions and now they have to show why they are world champions.
They played a quarter match against Scotland and a full match against Australia, followed by two more very short matches. Because they won very convincingly against Oman and then another rain-affected win against Namibia.
Who knows, they might be able to score against Scotland without the rain… but they were not overly convincing with the field and ball in their first game in Barbados. I think that's been true ever since.
They were outplayed by Australia, but that can happen to anyone. Australia is a strong team in any form.
Then there is the fear of losing, the fear of going out. That's why England performed so well in Antigua and have been convincing in their last two games. They were in the last chance bar and had to bring their 'A' game against two fellow nations and they did so.
'England will not take any team lightly in the Super 8'
I probably haven't had as much time in between as I would like… but I have three games in the next five days and I think I'll really enjoy the rhythm of the cricket.
That's the case for several teams entering the Super 8. The Indian batsmen, who have played a lot in New York, their top order, South Africa's top order, they go into this phase without conceding many runs. Betting was so difficult.
I didn't care about pitching in this tournament. In the IPL, the game was too focused on batting, and there were too many big scores such as sixes and fours.
Here it worked a little more in the bowlers' favor. In New York, I think the ball went too far in the bowlers' favour. But Dallas was good, Barbados was decent and if you're a batsman, I'd say St. Lucia would probably be a heavy pick.
In my opinion, there is no easier part of the draw in Super 8. Now we are in a situation where every team is expecting to advance to the semi-finals.
The shorter the game, the shorter the format and anything can happen. And as we have already seen, there have been some surprising upsets. The affiliated countries did themselves proud and played a lot of good cricket.
Every team has struggled against the US, as Pakistan found out against them in the Super Over and Canada found out against them in the opening game. They are a very good team.
England will not take any team lightly. It's going to be a tough game and they'll be hoping the job is already done when they go into it.
'The St Lucia surface suits the British style'
But they will face hosts West Indies for the first time and there will be a good atmosphere in St Lucia on Wednesday night.
But large crowds supporting the opposition are unlikely to upset them too much. These England players have played in the IPL and participated in big matches in the World Cup finals as well.
Plus, they will be happy to be in St. Lucia. It's a good pitch that fits their style of play. Batsmen like Phil Salt, Will Jacks, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow are eager to work the ball. West Indies, as we know, also have some very big batsmen.
It was very important in England's last game that Bairstow and Harry Brook played really well and showed a great partnership. This is another England trait that has allowed two men to enter this match in the middle.
They are also up to speed in their arsenal with Jofra Archer and Mark Wood and the number one T20 bowler Adil Rashid… they have it all.
Archer is impressed so far. He has great rhythm and adapts to situations. He is a very smart cricketer. It's not about speed, speed, speed.
Liam Livingstone is one point of interest in the West Indies game. The strain on his side isn't something that will go away in a few days.
If he doesn't pass the fitness test I'll take on Sam Curran. He is a like-for-like replacement. It provides another all-rounder option and another left-handed option.
We are now entering the final business phase of the tournament. There are no easy matches and England will need to be at their best if they are to progress to the semi-finals. All you have to do is get the skills right, perform well, and get good grades.
They are the world champions in this format and when you look at England from the other side, they will look at their long batting line-up and think, 'We better give our best'.
South Africa are a good team but I would be successful in their group along with England and the hosts West Indies.
