Taha’a is a place that slows down the pace of travel. best way – A quiet gem of an island in French Polynesia that feels like old Polynesia. Think crystal-clear lagoons that sparkle like glass, colorful coral gardens perfect for snorkeling, vanilla-scented breezes, and a fulfilling pace of life that invites you to breathe deeper and enjoy every moment. Taha’a, about a 20-minute flight from Bora Bora, shares a lagoon with Raiatea and offers a quieter, less touristy alternative to its more famous neighbors.

Despite its remoteness and unspoilt feel, getting to Taha’a is surprisingly easy. First, fly to Raiatea (RFP), which is well connected with daily flights from Tahiti and frequent short-haul flights from Bora Bora. It’s about a 20-minute flight from Bora Bora, making Taha’a an easy and worthwhile addition to your itinerary. Once you arrive at Raiatea, you will take a boat across the lagoon, which will take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on where you stay. Most resorts or pensions offer boat transfers that will take you to a beautiful spot upon arrival where you can admire the island’s beautiful lagoons and leisurely rhythms.
I would say the ideal length of stay is 3-5 days. In three relaxing days, you can explore the lagoon, visit a pearl farm, stroll through a vanilla plantation, and snorkel in a coral garden. A visit of four or five days will allow you to truly unwind, enjoy leisurely mornings in your overwater villa, enjoy additional excursions such as hiking or rum distillery tours, and immerse yourself in the serene and soulful rhythms of the island.

Tahaa’s lagoon is undoubtedly one of the island’s biggest attractions. One of the best ways to experience this is on a private lagoon tour, where you can customize your day and choose the spots that interest you most. You can snorkel in vibrant coral gardens, swim with blacktip sharks, explore pristine motus and often enjoy lunch on a secluded island. It all happens at your own pace.
During these tours, your guide will typically take you through lush coral gardens where you can snorkel, floating gently along the current over schools of colorful tropical fish in the tranquil waterways between dazzling coral reefs and motus. The coral gardens here are truly special with their thriving terrain, crystal clear waters and abundant marine life that make every moment underwater unforgettable.

During many of our lagoon excursions, you will also have the opportunity to swim with blacktip sharks and rays in their natural environment. These sharks are generally small and accustomed to humans, so safety is a top priority for guides. It’s a thrilling yet courteous way to encounter marine wildlife.
Taha’a’s idyllic workout is like stepping into a postcard. These small, uninhabited islands dotted the lagoon offer pristine white sand beaches, swaying coconut palms, and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming or snorkeling. Whether you arrive by private boat or as part of a lagoon tour, wandering these motors feels like discovering your own secret paradise.
We have done two tours ourselves and cannot recommend them highly enough. watercolor stealth and Manaba Tours in Hoani Both are fantastic. Hoani also runs tours from Raiatea, which is worth keeping in mind if you want to explore the neighboring islands while you’re in the area.

Visit to a pearl farm
One of the highlights of Taha’a is visiting a pearl farm. We had an unforgettable experience here. Jjamppong Jinju Farm. This family-run farm is located right next to the lagoon and offers a fascinating look into how Tahitian black pearls are cultured, graded and turned into gemstones. I couldn’t resist choosing a beautiful pearl necklace as a souvenir. It is a type of souvenir that contains stories and memories of the island.
Vanilla Farm Tour
Taha is also famous as ‘Vanilla Island’, so a visit to a vanilla farm is a must. we explored vanilla valleyIt is a lush farm located in the heart of the island, where the air is thick with the sweet scent of vanilla vines. As we walked through the farm, we learned how each delicate orchid is hand-pollinated and turned into the rich beans, pastes and essences that make Taha’a vanilla so popular. Of course, we also stocked up on gifts like vanilla essence, paste, and beans.
