  • cocoa powder – to generous The amount of cocoa powder gives this drink a chocolatey taste. It’s almost like drinking chocolate!
  • tahini – Tahini is not only one of our favorite ingredients because of its nutritional benefits (vitamins, minerals, healthy fats), but it also adds a wonderful thickness, richness, and nutty flavor to this hot chocolate.
  • sweetener – We like the combination of maple syrup (or honey) + dates, but you can add almost any sweetener here. Dates add a caramel-like flavor and improve texture. even Creamier!
  • sea salt – All it takes is a little pinch to enhance all the flavors here. Plus salt + tahini + maple = MAGIC!
  • cinnamon – Adds a bit of sweetness and a blood sugar balancing effect.
  • collagen – If you like protein hot chocolate, be sure to add collagen! A cup of hot chocolate with tahini is a hearty serving. 15g protein. It also adds a creamy feel. If you’re a vegetarian, hot chocolate will still be delicious even without the vegan version!
  • Coconut Milk Powder + Water // Milk of Your Choice – There are many options when choosing milk. We love combining coconut milk powder and hot water to create a super creamy, dairy-free, rich “milk.” But you could substitute coconut milk for either milk, or use any other milk you like (almond, oat, or cashew would all work great).

How to Make Tahini Hot Chocolate

When it’s hot chocolate time mix everything (including hot water) Heat Safe Blender (One with a vented lid to allow steam to escape, like a Vitamix) Blending will create more foam and cause the dates to fall apart. The reason for not blending in a sealed container is that the hot liquid can build up pressure and cause the container to explode. great.

What should I do if I don’t have a heat-safe blender? Or a blender? You can try making this drink in a pot on the stovetop and adding coconut sugar (or any liquid/granular sweetener) instead of the dates. Optionally you can use a handheld whisk to make it creamy/foamy!
