Take a look inside NASA’s lunar spacesuit lab ahead of Artemis launch

NASA astronauts are preparing for the first mission to fly around the moon in half a century. Nasa’s Dustin Gohmert is responsible for spacesuit engineering at Johnson Space Center’s Orion Crew Survival Systems Lab.

Built over several years, the suit is designed to protect astronauts during launch and landing, as well as guard against possible emergency scenarios. Although the suit isn’t all that different from previous generations, the pressures the astronauts will experience and the length of time they may be in the suit are “much longer than anything we’ve tried before,” Gohmert said.

In addition to NASA’s Artemis mission, the orange Orion suit is ultimately designed for use on future Mars transit missions.
