It wouldn’t be that surprising if you happened to spot a bird sitting right outside your hotel room in Providenciales. Provo, more commonly known as the tourist capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands, is a beach paradise. Therefore, most of the island’s hotels and resorts line the coast. In particular, accommodation is mostly spread along Grace Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Seabirds, including gulls and terns, are a common sight around the beach excavations. But not so with some of the more exotic TCI birds like this one.
This is a green heron. This wading bird likes to spend time in dense vegetation close to wetlands. Think mangroves, wetlands, and other pristine tropical areas. It’s a pristine tropical area like the one around Kokomo Botanical Resort.
As previously mentioned, Kokomo is uniquely located in the natural setting of Provo Resort. But as I discovered on my first morning there, guests are not the only ones who enjoy the natural surroundings.
This green heron perched just outside my cottage immediately let me know that I was in for a completely different kind of escape than I had previously experienced in Provo.
Other TCI birds I encountered on property included bananaquits, warblers, and my favorite, hummingbirds!
During my stay, little hummingbirds buzzed here and there, taking advantage of Kokomo’s many flowering plants.
For me, the atmosphere with the birds at Kokomo was truly amazing. Bird lovers will want to check in here the next time they visit Provo.
