The 6 Best Hotels in Los Angeles (Updated 2026)

Streets of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles lined with palm trees and expensive stores

I didn’t like Los Angeles at first. I found it too spread out and didn’t like the atmosphere. I also felt like there wasn’t a lot of “things to do” compared to places like Paris, London or Tokyo.

But when I stopped trying to fit Los Angeles into a typical tourist mold and gave the city a chance, I began to really understand its unique charm and laid-back lifestyle. I truly fell in love with this city then, and I think you will too. It is a city created for residents, not tourists.

But if you’re a visitor (like me), you’ll still need a nice place to stay. Your hotel choice can make or break your trip. The city is so spread out that depending on where you stay, what you can see and how long you’ll spend stuck in traffic can vary greatly.

I have stayed in many hotels in Los Angeles over the years. Here is a list of my favorite LA hotels to help you have an unforgettable time in the City of Angels.

1. Kinney

Kinney Hotel is a vibrant 3-star boutique hotel located in Venice Beach. I think it really captures the essence of the city’s laid-back artistic spirit. I love the fun and lively nature of the hotel, with its colorful décor, quirky art installations, and retro furniture. A variety of amenities include a heated outdoor pool, a stylish lounge area with a fire pit, bike rentals, and a fitness center. The hotel’s central courtyard is a social hub (called The Quad) and features a ping pong table and cozy lounge area, making it the perfect place to relax and mingle with fellow travellers.

The stylish rooms have a unique atmosphere with wooden furniture and colorful artwork on the walls. The bathroom is a bit old but a good size and covered in colorful tiles and artwork. Free toiletries and plush bathrobes are provided. There’s underground parking on site (a rarity in LA), making it the perfect location for a SoCal road trip.

2. Sixty Beverly Hills

This modern 4-star hotel is located in the heart of iconic Beverly Hills. Sixty has a sleek, modern interior with mid-20th century design elements (geometric shapes, minimalist wooden furniture, large open spaces, etc.). I especially like the rooftop pool and lounge with panoramic city views. There is also a trendy on-site restaurant and bar serving creative cuisine and craft cocktails. It’s pretty expensive, but that’s LA.

Rooms and suites are large and boast smooth hardwood floors, custom furnishings, luxurious bedding, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views of the Beverly Hills or LA skyline. Some rooms also have a balcony. Amenities include a work desk, plush bedding, a flat-screen TV, Nespresso machine, and a well-stocked minibar. Spacious bathrooms feature marble countertops, rainfall showerheads, and luxurious bath amenities. It’s the ideal choice for travelers looking for a stylish stay in one of LA’s most popular neighborhoods.

3. Venice V Hotel

This historic 1915 building was once Charlie Chaplin’s home. It has since been renovated into a stylish three-star hotel that perfectly embodies the eclectic, bohemian vibe of Venice Beach. We love that it’s just steps from the iconic Muscle Beach and offers useful beach amenities like beach cruisers, umbrellas, and chairs.

Each room is uniquely designed in one of three themes: Boho, Artist and Dogtown. All rooms have stunning ocean views, so I love that I can wake up in the morning with a panoramic view of the ocean. The bed is really comfortable and has fluffy goose down pillows. The spacious bathroom features a beautifully tiled walk-in shower, Aesop amenities and soft bathrobes. If you’re looking to have fun in one of LA’s most popular neighborhoods, this is the perfect place to stay.

4. Beach shutters

Shutters on the Beach is a luxurious 5-star hotel with classic coastal charm reminiscent of a grand beach house. Located right on the sandy beaches of Santa Monica, this beachfront hotel boasts a charming yet elegant atmosphere with curated artwork adorning the walls. We love the fact that it has a variety of top-notch amenities, including a full-service spa, beachfront pool, hot tub, and a variety of dining options (one of which includes breakfast) featuring fresh, local ingredients.

The hotel has a beachy design with airy and sunny rooms. It also boasts hardwood floors, stylish Tibetan rugs, artwork by local artists, and a small indoor library. The rooms have all the amenities you would expect from a hotel of this standard. The luxurious bathrobes, slippers, and luxurious bath amenities are also really lovely. Most rooms also have a private balcony with stunning sea views. It’s the perfect getaway for those seeking laid-back luxury.

5. CitizenM Los Angeles

This four-star hotel is perfect for the modern traveler looking for comfort, style and convenience without breaking the bank. I’m a huge fan of this brand (hugely popular in Europe) with its minimalist design and vibrant, art-filled interiors. I also love all the common spaces where you can work or relax, from the cozy living room-style lobby to the rooftop bar with panoramic views of the city. The breakfast buffet is very varied, with pastries, healthy options and hot dishes such as scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages.

One of citizenM’s concepts is to offer one room type that is small but thoughtfully designed to optimize space. All rooms are equipped with a refrigerator, comfortable king-size bed, fluffy pillows, blackout blinds, and soundproofing to ensure a good night’s sleep. The bathroom is small but well-designed, with a rain shower and citizenM’s signature toiletries in your choice of “AM” or “PM” scents. I love that the room has wall-to-wall windows that let in plenty of LA sunlight.

This charming, functional and trendy hotel is perfect for travelers who want to stay in DTLA (downtown LA) near all the art galleries. Don’t miss The Last Bookstore just down the street! This bookstore is my favorite in the city and a must-have for fellow book lovers.

6. Andaz West Hollywood

This 5-star hotel by Hyatt is the perfect place for modern luxury on the iconic Sunset Strip. (It was actually the first hotel on the Strip!) I really like this brand and this location has lots of open, airy spaces featuring local artists. The rooftop pool is the highlight of the hotel. Come up here to relax on one of the loungers or take some amazing panoramic photos. Another nice touch is that complimentary wine is served every evening between 4-5pm.

Spacious and stylish rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills or Los Angeles skyline. Each room has a minimalist style and amenities including a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth speakers, and a complimentary minibar with snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. The bed is comfortable and I like the spacious work desk. The stylish bathroom features a spacious rain shower, plush bathrobes and complimentary designer toiletries.

Andaz is located in West Hollywood and is a great choice for first-time visitors to the city. (It’s central to most of the attractions you’ll want to visit.) And since it’s a Hyatt hotel, you can book rooms and suites with points. If you want to learn more about the world of points and miles, check out this post. This will help you get started.
