The beloved Rodecaster board now has a video production ready product.

Like many in the podcasting world, we loved the Rodecaster Pro when it launched in late 2018. It took six years, but microphone manufacturer Rode has finally expanded its user-friendly line into the video world.

The Rodecaster Video faces much stiffer competition than the original Pro board. In this post-pandemic era where video is a priority, many companies have released similar devices. It also comes with a steep price tag, at $1,119. That’s nearly double the $600 price tag of the Pro.

Rode is also interested in the same beginner category it attracted with its first Pro: people who want to take their video production skills to the next level but aren’t ready to buy full-on pro gear.

While the Pro is focused entirely on in-person audio podcasting, the Video covers a wider range, from solo Twitch streamers to multiple people producing video in a studio. The new model is more compact than the original, as it’s meant to be seated in front of a computer rather than placed in the center of a podcasting table.

A pair of Neutrik jacks with XLR mic preamps, along with four HDMI and two USB-C inputs, let users switch between video sources in real time, while audio processing includes an EQ, compressor, high-pass filter, de-esser, and noise gate.

It can automatically cue out green and blue screens, switch audio between video sources, and stream to “all major platforms” over Wi-Fi or hardwired via Ethernet and USB. It can also record directly to a connected external hard drive.

“For decades, our mission has been to empower creators with professional yet accessible audio gear,” CEO Damien Wilson said in a press release. “Groundbreaking innovations like the Rodecaster Pro and Wireless GO have changed the way people create content across multiple categories, putting studio-quality audio solutions within reach of today’s creators. With Rodecaster Video, we’re doing the same for video production.”

Rodecaster Video is available for pre-order starting today and will ship on October 10th.
