The arrested 39-year-old Polish man appeared in the Frederiksberg court for a preliminary hearing on Saturday.
He was charged with assault against a public official, but denied guilt, local media reported.
In an interview with DR on Tuesday, Mr. Frederiksen said any form of violence was unacceptable in Danish society.
The incident, which occurred two days before Danes head to the polls in the European election, drew strong condemnation from world leaders and EU Secretary-General Charles Michel said he was “outraged”.
Frederiksen, 46, took office as prime minister in 2019 after serving as leader of the center-left Social Democratic Party four years ago, becoming the youngest prime minister in Danish history.
In the same interview with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, the Prime Minister was asked about the results of the European Parliament elections. At that time, the Social Democratic Party lost to the green left party SF, which received more than 17% of the vote.
Frederiksen, who had to stop campaigning for the weekend to recover after the assault, said he was “really sorry” about the outcome, but stressed he was listening to voters.
