On Thursday morning Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk on his 66th birthday.
The former prince was taken to Ailsham Police Station on suspicion of misconduct in public office and later released under investigation, Thames Valley Police said.
“The law must run its course,” King Charles III said in a statement.
Both the King and Queen were seen carrying out their royal duties as usual.
Andrew’s arrest comes after Thames Valley Police said they were considering a complaint alleging the former prince shared confidential material with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew has previously denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein. He did not respond to the BBC’s request for comment on specific allegations related to the release of millions of Epstein files in January.
