to Casa de Campo Resort & Villas At the legendary La Romana dog teeth The golf course has officially reopened following the most extensive restoration in its history. The unveiling was made at an event held on March 13, highlighting how important this moment is not only for resorts, but for the Dominican Republic’s place in global luxury travel.

More than 50 years after it first opened in 1971, the course has undergone a comprehensive $15 million restoration to return it to its original form while preparing it for decades to come.

For travelers, this means one thing. One of the things that defines the Caribbean golf experience is that it has once again reached its peak.

Preserving one of the world’s greatest courses

Dog teeth have long held an unrivaled place in Caribbean golf. Designed by Pete Dye, the course is known for its dramatic layout along the Caribbean Sea, with holes set right against the coastline and directly into the elements.

The restoration project was led by: Jerry Fate DesignReturn the course as close as possible to Dye’s original vision with clear instructions.

This meant a complete rebuild rather than a surface refresh.

All greens, bunkers, tees and fairways have been rebuilt. Drainage and irrigation systems were replaced with modern infrastructure. The course was completely re-mown using: Dynasty PaspalumVarieties selected specifically for coastal conditions ensure durability against salt and wind.

The goal was accuracy, not reinvention.

“We celebrate the preservation of the legend,” he said. Andres Picardo RosenbergPresident of Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. “This project ensures that future generations of golfers can experience the course as it was originally envisioned.”

‘Heaven 7’ and the Edge of the Caribbean

The defining feature of the dog’s teeth remains their collectively sea-front cavities. “Heaven 7.”

These seven holes are located right along the Caribbean Sea, with waves crashing against the rocks just yards from the fairway. Wind becomes a constant element. Shot selection changes as conditions change.

Restoration work placed particular emphasis on protecting these openings.

Advanced coastal engineering techniques were applied to strengthen the shoreline and preserve the integrity of the layout from long-term environmental exposure. After decades of direct influence from the marine environment, this work has ensured that the Caribbean’s best-known golf course remains intact.

For players, the experience remains the same as it has always been. It is demanding, exposed and defined by the elements.

Government leaders echoed this sentiment, noting that projects like this are a key driver of the country’s continued luxury travel growth.

Why Reopening Matters Now

Timing is important for travelers, especially golfers.

Demand for luxury golf travel throughout the Caribbean is growing, with players seeking destinations that combine world-class courses with a full-service resort experience. Casa de Campo has long been the region’s mainstay in its category.

Restoration of your dog’s teeth strengthens that position.

This is not a new course trying to establish itself. An established global name returning to full form after a comprehensive rebuild.

That distinction has weight. Travelers who played this course years ago now have a reason to return. People who have never experienced it can do so knowing that they are seeing it the way it was meant to be seen.

Beyond the Course: The Next Step for Casa de Campo

A heritage course rebuilt for the future

Few courses are recognized for their dog’s teeth. Few hold that position for decades.

What this restoration offers is continuity.

Same routing. Same coastal exposure. The same goes for the long hole along the Caribbean Sea. Now supported by a modern infrastructure designed to protect against time and the environment.

At the end of the ceremony, a ribbon was momentarily cut in honor of Pete Dye himself. His ashes rest on the 8th hole of the course, a permanent link between the designer and the landscape he shaped.

The course he created remains intact.

Now you’re ready again.
