Federal officials are investigating two new food poisoning outbreaks. One is associated with Listeria infection and the other with Cyslospora infection.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet confirmed the source of the pathogen in either outbreak.
The listeria outbreak sickened eight people, but the FDA did not report the patients’ ages or where they lived. The agency has launched a tracking effort but does not report which foods are being tracked. Likewise, the FDA has begun field inspections but does not report which locations are being inspected.
Seven patients were identified in the Cyclospora outbreak, but the FDA did not report their ages or residence. The agency reports that it has begun tracking efforts, but is now reporting which foods it is tracking.
In other outbreak news, the FDA continues to investigate three salmonella outbreaks linked to moringa supplement capsules.
A new outbreak of salmonella disease traced to moringa leaf powder is under investigation, the third such outbreak. This time, MOGO brand capsules were involved.
New outbreak of salmonella Typhimurium has infected 18 people in 14 states. Seven people required hospitalization, but no deaths were reported, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
This outbreak is separate from two previous outbreaks caused by different moringa leaf powders. The current outbreak has been traced to MOGO brand moringa powder capsules distributed by MOGO Moringa LLC of St. Louis, Missouri.
The illness began between February 3 and April 7 this year. Five of the seven people interviewed (71%) reported taking moringa powder capsules, four of whom reported taking MOGO brand moringa powder capsules.
May 25 MOGO Moringa LLC reminisce Lot #15525AA EXP 6/2027 and Lot #00926AA EXP 1/2028 of MOGO brand Pure Moringa Oleifera capsules.
Currently affected patients live in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.
There are likely to be many more patients with infectious diseases who are not included in the official count. This is because some people do not receive treatment and others are not specifically tested for salmonella infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that for every patient confirmed to have a salmonella outbreak, there are 29 undetected cases.
the other two outbreaks
Two outbreaks have been traced to moringa leaf powder products in recent months, and the FDA has reopened investigations into them.
One case reported 10 people infected with salmonella across eight states. Illness began between September 26, 2025 and January 8, 2026. Seven out of eight people interviewed reported taking Rosabella brand moringa powder capsules. There were 3 hospitalizations.
As part of the investigation, the Indiana State Department of Health collected unopened product samples from the sick person’s home. The sample tested positive for Salmonella Newport. Whole genome sequencing Analysis shows that it is the same strain of Salmonella Newport that is causing illness in this outbreak.
In response to this investigation, Ambrosia Brands LLC recalled certain lots of Rosabella brand moringa powder capsules on February 13, 2026. The recalled products were available for sale nationwide and internationally. Products that tested positive for salmonella were also included in the recall. Although the product should no longer be on the market, consumers are encouraged to check the product at home due to its long shelf life.
In another salmonella outbreak caused by moringa powder, the CDC reported a total of 97 cases in 32 states. Of the 67 people interviewed, 59 reported taking products containing moringa leaf powder, with 55 reporting taking only Live it Up brand Super Greens supplement powder, three reporting taking only Why Not Natural moringa powder capsules, and one reporting taking both products. There were 26 hospitalizations, but no deaths were reported.
Products associated with the diseases associated with this outbreak have a long shelf life.

Since the investigation closed on March 17, 22 new cases of the disease have been reported across four states. As of May 27, a total of 119 people across 36 states have been reported infected with one of the outbreak strains of Salmonella since the investigation began.
Illness began between August 22, 2025 and April 26, 2026. Of the 109 people for whom information was available, 32 were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.
Of the 79 patients interviewed, including some of the 22 new cases, 70 reported consuming products containing moringa leaf powder, including 60 who reported consuming only Live it Up Super Greens supplement powder, 5 who reported only Why Not Natural moringa powder capsules, 1 who reported consuming both Live it Up Super Greens supplement powder and Why Not Natural moringa powder capsules, and 4 who reported consuming only TNVitamins moringa powder capsules.
The FDA is conducting additional tracking of the supply chain to determine the specific source of the salmonella. Additionally, the FDA is working with state and local partners to collect product samples and determine if additional products are contaminated.
