The Oval Invincibles won all four of their games at The Hundred, with Sam Curran's all-round heroics proving the difference between the two teams battling for bragging rights in the capital.
Curran had single-handedly taken the Invincibles to a formidable total on a tricky surface with 51 runs from 22 balls, before dashing Spirit's hopes of chasing 147 with a stunning five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick.
On a lateral-moving Lord's pitch, Invincibles captain Sam Billings was up to bat first and the visitors struggled to 46-2 at the halfway mark as the Spirit attack took advantage of the pitch's bowler-friendly nature.
Ollie Stone rolled Will Jacks into the gate and Liam Dawson dismissed Jordan Cox, who had just been selected for the England men's Test squad.
After a couple of strong attacks from David Malan and Billings, Malan was caught on the square-leg boundary by Matt Critchley to make it 38 of 29.
Billings struggled to get going and was retired for the in-form Donovan Pereira, but it was Curran who turned the tide, reaching 50 on 21 pitches, including three straight sixes off Nathan Ellis. His innings took the Invincibles to a respectable 147-5.
In response, the Spirit safely made it through the power play and won 35-0 with assists from Keaton Jennings and Michael Pepper.
But the Invincibles' top-class spin attack turned things around, with the two openers and Ollie Pope falling in quick succession. Jax removed Jennings lbbw, Adam Zampa caught Pepper on the first ball and Nathan Sauter hit a leg break that broke Pope's defence.
Dan Lawrence and Shimron Hetmyer got the Spirit going again and the game started well with 56 runs needed from the last 30 balls. But before they could up the ante, Zampa, who finished with figures of 3-22, dismissed both Hetmyer (20 off 21) and Lawrence (27 off 18).
Despite Andre Russell's attempts to break the home side apart, Curran secured victory for the undefeated side with one of the best individual performances of the tournament, netting the third hat-trick in the history of The Hundred men's competition.
Man of the Match: Sam Curran
“I've had a few fights with Russ (Russell) over the years. The hat-trick ball wasn't my cup of tea, it was either me or him, he's going to hit me for six or I'm going to get the wicket. Luckily he got ahead but the most important thing is we won,” Curran said.
“It's never over when you have guys like Dan (Lawrence), Hetmire and Russell, so it was a huge relief when we brought him in.”
Brook fires Superchargers to win over Originals
Harry Brook's 50-point effort gave Andrew Flintoff's Northern Superchargers a 14-point win over Manchester Originals in The Hundred at Headingley.
England's batsmen scored 58 runs off 33 balls as the Superchargers lost the coin toss before taking a lead of 167-5, while the winless Originals were unfortunately defeated by two run outs in the chase.
Superchargers had a tough start as Fazalhak Farooqui took his wicket on the first ball of the match.
Captain Graham Clarke and Brooke rebuilt the innings with a well-constructed 50 partnership, with Brooke scoring an explosive 50 before being caught by Scott Curry's brilliant one-handed dive.
The Originals fought back hard at the end, limiting the Supercharger to 167.
Captain Phil Salt and Matty Hurst made a promising start to the Originals' innings with an opening partnership of 90 runs.
But both players were out, Salt scoring 40 off 27 balls and Hurst top-scoring with 78 off 45 balls.
The Originals came from 90-0 down to win 128-4, thanks to spinner Mitchell Santner taking 2-23.
When Hurst left, the Originals needed 29 runs from 13, but couldn't get past the line as no other hitter scored in double figures, and they ended up at the bottom of the standings.
The Superchargers moved into third place with their third win in four games.
Man of the Match: Harry Brook
“I thought they were the favorites on the power play, but we pitched unbelievably right down the stretch and won,” Brook said.
“The outfield here is so fast that I felt like I didn't have to hit the ball in the air a lot, I just tried to break through the gaps and it worked.
“I tried to hold on until the end so I could put pressure on them at the end. I had a good start and luckily I was able to close a few gaps.”
