The South Carolina man, who has been convicted of his former girlfriend’s parents, has become the first US executive prisoner executed by the launch squad for the past 15 years.
Brad Sigmon was shot by three volunteers who fired a rifle on the chest immediately after 18:00 local time (23:00 GMT) on Friday.
The 67 -year -old Sigmon was convicted in 2001 for murdering David and Gladis Lark as a baseball bat. She could escape when he shot her.
SIGMON requested death by firing a squad for electric chairs and deadly injections, two execution methods approved by two other countries.
Chrysti Shain of South Carolina Correction said Sigmon was killed by a doctor in a local time.
She said three members of the Larke family attended to witness his death.
SIGMON said before he was killed: “I want my deadlines to be one of love and apology.”
He was quoted to blame the death penalty in the Bible.
Sigmon was tied to a chair and had a watershed to catch the blood, Witnesses said.
18:01 curtains hiding three volunteers. At 18:05, the trio was launched in 15 feet (4.6m) without count downloads.
Jeffrey Collins, a journalist of the Associated Press News Agency, said in a press conference that Sigmon had a goal of Red Bulls Eye in his heart.
After reading his last statement, the hood was placed on his head.
When he was shot, his chest rose and fell down several times, the reporter added.
The doctor took a test that took about 90 seconds before killing him.
WHF-TV’s journalist Anna Dobbins added that SIGMON wore a black jump suit but had a “bent” arm when he was shot.
“When the bullet entered his body, I saw blood bouncing,” she said.
She said that all guns were fired at the same time and the witnesses could not see the gun.
The prison guard also provided earplugs to the Witnesses, protecting the ears from the sound of the shot and adding a reporter from the post and course newspaper.
Sigon’s lawyer, Bo King, was hoping that South Carolina Governor was finally executed and condemned the withholding information on deadly injections.
King said his client was suffering from mental illness, and that friendship in prison was evidence of rehabilitation.
“Brad was asked to get three original recipes Kentucky Pride Chicken Buckets for the last meal, who told WYFF-TV on Friday.
“As the last meal he wanted to share something special,” he said.
Since 1977, only three people have died of launch and all three were in Utah. The last example was Ronnie Lee Gardner in 2010.
Prior to the execution of Sigmon, the anti -death penalty protests held a rally outside Columbia City.
They marked “All life is precious” and “Do not kill.”
The bullets used are designed to cause maximum damage by being separated from the shock. Medical experts have discussed the amount of pain they can cause.
The state allows the witness to observe death behind the bulletproof glass, but the executor is hidden to protect his identity.
South Carolina passed a law that demanded the identity of the executive team members in 2023 to keep the secret.
