A nonprofit group working to promote food safety has filed a petition asking the FDA to change its practice of not disclosing the names of food companies involved in outbreaks.
STOP Foodborne Illness filed a petition to challenge the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) use of a loophole called “confidential commercial information” (CCI). Using a loophole, the FDA does not routinely release the names of companies involved in food poisoning outbreaks that do not involve recalls.
