Wessel Nijman maintained his incredible start to 2026 by winning his fourth Players Championship and fifth ranking title of the year at the recent tournament in Milton Keynes.
Nijman, who also won the European Darts Trophy in March, also won the PC2, PC8 and PC10 with an impressive 8-5 win over Jermaine Wattimena in the all-Dutch final of the Players Championship 12.
Beau Greaves, who made history by becoming the first woman to win a PDC rankings title by winning PC11 on Monday night, was eliminated in the last 16 on Tuesday.
Andy Bissell defeated Greaves 6-0, then beat Max Hopp 6-3 in the quarter-finals before he also lost against Nijman 7-4 in the semi-finals.
This set up Nijman’s final against Wattimena, with the former enjoying the better of the early exchanges thanks to some clinical combination finishing.
Wattimena established an early 4-2 cushion to claim their first ranking title since October, but Nijman won six of the next seven matches to close out an impressive 8-5 victory.
“It was a bit of a tense final. I missed a few doubles and fell behind.“ This reflected Nijman, who surpassed Watimena to enter the world’s top 16 for the first time.
“I’m so happy to have kept it together. I hit a few finishes with the last dart, 57 (6-5) was important.
“If you get it right and you get a final and you play that game all day, you’ll remember that next time you come.“
