Text messages between singer D4vd and Celeste Rivas Hernández, the 14-year-old girl he is accused of murdering, revealed she was pregnant and had had an abortion before her death.
The message was displayed at a hearing for a judge to decide whether the singer, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, should stand trial for the teen’s death last year.
“What if the first abortion doesn’t work?” According to prosecutors, Celeste texted Burke in June 2024. At the time, she was 13 years old and he was 19.
Prosecutors said Burke killed her after she revealed that he had abused minors and threatened to destroy his career. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and sexual assault of the girl.
In an exchange in January 2024, Burke apologized to the teen for “putting him through this,” according to messages released to a Los Angeles court last Friday.
She replied, “Neither of us are capable of caring for and taking care of the baby. Isn’t that for the best?”
Burke asked, “Also, my mother always told me that if I was in a situation like this, I should ask: It’s my problem, right?”
According to the detective’s testimony, Celeste responded, “Of course it’s David’s.”
The court heard that in another text to Celeste in June 2024, Burke wrote: “Let’s make this the last abortion until we have an actual abortion…”
Prosecutors presented iCloud data recovered from the defendant’s iPhone, which included text messages between the defendant and Celeste from August 8, 2022, when the defendant was 11 years old and Burke was 17 years old.
D4vd, who found fame on TikTok with his hits Romantic Homicide and Here With Me, was on tour when police discovered Celeste’s body in the front truck of his Tesla in September 2025, the day after she turned 15.
His worldwide tours were canceled and he largely withdrew from public life and social media.
Police announced his arrest in April this year.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman charged him with seven criminal counts, including murder, persistent sexual abuse of a child and desecration of human remains.
They said the teen was reported missing by her family and was last seen at Burke’s Hollywood Hills home on April 3, 2025, five months before her remains were found in the Tesla.
Prosecutors allege that he met Celeste online when she was 11, and that he began sexually abusing her when she was 13 and he was 18.
