The Trump administration moved to end nearly 500 employees of the federal funding news organization, VOA (American).
This is the latest drive by President Donald Trump to step back. The White House has accused “radical.”
CEO of VOA’s parent company, Kari Lake, said the decision said, “It will help to reduce federal bureaucracy, improve agency services, and save more difficult money from Americans, which caused illegal stages in the statement of New York Times.
The VOA was founded to respond to the Nazi propaganda during World War II and became a major global broadcaster.
The exit is supervised by Global Media (Usagm) and said that a total of 532 positions will be removed. According to the court submission, most of these employees are from VOA and 108 employees will remain.
In June, Lake announced that 639 employees would be terminated, but the notice was later withdrawn due to document errors. Some employees also filed a lawsuit to block termination.
The announcement was late on Friday night after the judge ruled that the Trump administration did not follow the appropriate process as an attempt to dismiss the VOA’s director Michael Abramowitz. The judge also ordered Lake to sit for testimony.
The lawsuit was filed by an agency staff group to block the attempt to close the VOA.
In a statement in the BBC’s US partner, CBS News, “We have discovered a continuous attack on Lake’s Agency Adhorrent.”
“We are looking forward to her testimony to hear whether the VOA dismantling plan has been made by the strict review process required by Congress. We will continue to fight about believing that we will be our rights according to the law because we have not seen the evidence so far.”
Most of the VOA’s journalists have spent administrative vacations since March, but some employees who use some fascists were called again when the war between Israel and Iran broke out this summer.
This notification will also not affect journalists working at the Cuba Broadcasting Office, which broadcasts the news in Spanish in Miami.
Critics say Trump’s VOA attempts to withdraw from attacks on the freedom of the press affects the US’s ability to exercise soft power abroad. The administration accused the exit as “anti -Trump prevention” and “radical”.
VOA broadcasts TV, radio and digital content in almost 50 languages.
