Keir Starmer handed Chagos Islands to Mauritius and signed a contract to rent 110 million pounds of military base a year.
The prime minister said the contract is the only way to maintain the long -term future of the base and strengthen the national security of the UK.
According to the terms of the contract, Mauritius will get sovereignty of the island in the UK, but the United States and the United Kingdom will continue to operate military bases in Diego Garcia, one of the islands during the early 99 years.
The Conservative Party described the contract as “national self -ization,” which was “more exposed to China” because of its relationship with Mauritius.
The United Kingdom has signed this contract after overcoming the legal issue of the last moment raised by Charossians.
The United Kingdom purchased the island in £ 3 million in 1968, but Mauritius insisted that it should give up the island for independence from England.
The islands then cleared the road to the British armed forces, which were invited to move to Mauritius and Seychels or to settle in West Sex Crawle.
The government said it will pay an average of 110 million pounds annually to Mauritius for 99 years, and Keir said that it was “net cost” of £ 34 billion after adjusting factors including inflation.
The prime minister said in a press conference that the British should face the Mauritius legal behavior that can interfere with Garcia base, saying “action”.
KEIR said at the Northwood Military Headquarters in England, saying, “Trump welcomed the deal with other allies. Because they can’t create a basis for others who want to hurt us by seeing the strategic importance of this base.”
He added: “If we do not agree with this transaction, the legal situation means that we cannot prevent China or other countries to build their own base or to communicate near our base.
“The responsible government could not do that.”
This contract is set up 24 miles around Diego Garcia, so you can’t build anything without British consent.
Foreign troops and private troops will be banned on other islands of the archipelago, and Britain maintains the authority to access the island.
If both sides agree, there is an option to extend the lease to 40 years.
This treaty is only effective after being approved by the British and Mauritius Parliament.
Prime Minister Mauritius Nabin Ram Gilam welcomed the contract as “a great victory in the Mauritius country.”
“I always have to gain our sovereignty about Chagos’s total, including Diego Garcia,” he said.
“Charossians must be able to live again on the island.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also welcomed the contract. “We have a long-term, stable and effective operation of Diego Garcia’s joint US-UK military facilities, which are important for regional and world security.”
However, the agreement says that the British opposition politicians have questioned the cost and should not provide an important military foundation to a country that is closely related to China.
Conservative Kemi Badenoch said: “Only the labor of Keir Starmer will negotiate the deal paid to give something.
“This is an important military base. Mauritius is a Chinese alliance.”
The former security minister and conservative MP TOGENDHAT said that the world tonight show of the BBC Radio 4 is “big shift.”
“According to the contract that we just came out, the British government promised Mauritius to inform the work taken in Diego Garcia,” he said.
“This is not only a surrender of the sovereignty of the base, but also includes Mauritius to actually use the base.
“This is a big change in devotion and not told by the government, but a big change … is about the ability to protect England and protect the world’s attention.
“This means that Mauritius will have a consultation in a place where you may need to think that it needs to be acting elsewhere or other places such as the Middle East or Afghanistan.”
Reformed British leader Nigel Farage said: “Keir starmer is more interested in foreign courts than in the UK’s national interests.
“I didn’t need to give to Mauritius to Chagos, and I played in China’s hands.”
Getty imageIt occurred after the High Court dismissed the legal challenge, which temporarily blocked the transaction when the final court order was given to 02:25.
Legal action was raised by two Charossian women, Bernadette Dugasse and Bertrice Pompe. You can come back.
The deal said that Mauritius “can implement a settlement program” on the island except Diego Garcia, the home of the British military base.
In a pre -letter letter, the two women’s lawyers said they were illegally speaking to the future of the island despite being an natives.
They also said they did not trust Mauritius who treated Charossians fairly and faced “severe obstacles” as a British citizen who did not have Mauritius nationality, including the loss of racism and return.
According to the court’s decision, Pompe added “very sad day,” but “we do not give up.”
“We don’t want to give our rights and hand over our rights to Mauritius. We are not Mauritius,” she said.

On Thursday, the representatives of the Chaos Community met with David Lammy and Foreign Minister David Lammy and Secretary of Stephen Doughty to discuss the sovereignty of the territory.
Immediately after the meeting, Jemmy Simon of Charossian Voice Group said on the BBC, “There is nothing good for us.”
“I am terrible and angry now.”
“They promised to find our best, the absolute garbage, our best,” she said.
“It depends on Mauritius to decide whether to reinstall it in an external system, but you don’t have to do it unless you want it.”
But at a meeting near Port Louis Dozzz, Mauritius, Charossians illuminate fireworks to celebrate the signature.
Olivier Bancoul, the leader of the Chagos refugee group, welcomed it as a “historic day for us.”
“For several years, talking with our children about Chagas has felt like a story about where we really don’t know. Today they will finally walk the land of ancestors.”
ReutersThe Chaos Islands were separated from Mauritius in 1965, when Mauritius was still a British colony.
The United Kingdom invited the US to build a military base in Diego Garcia and removed thousands of people from the island to prevent return.
In recent years, the United Kingdom has undergone international pressure to turn the island to Mauritius with the siding siding of the UN’s Supreme Court and Mauritius on the claims of sovereignty.
In the late 2022, the relocated conservative government began negotiations on territorial control, but failed to reach the agreement until the 2024 general election was lost.
