Housing prices in San Francisco are notoriously expensive, with the average home costing $1.26 million. It’s no surprise that at least 20 people toured the $299,000 shack that was destroyed by fire last weekend in one of San Francisco’s southernmost neighborhoods, according to The San Francisco Standard.
Potential buyers were asked to sign a liability waiver before setting foot in the building’s charred remains, the outlet said. The estate agent representing the property, a “fixer-upper” reportedly occupied by squatters before the fire, expects it to fetch more than its asking price. (The deadline for all bids was Tuesday.)
Of course, buyers in San Francisco are also accustomed to tearing down properties for little money. In early 2022, before the return of many tech workers who fled the city due to the pandemic, a 122-year-old Victorian billed as San Francisco’s “worst house on the best block” sold for nearly $2 million.
