It was shocking. And it was unexpected. One of the best meals I had in the Caribbean. A new, relatively unknown beach bar in Grand Cayman.

confident, Grand Cayman It is one of the true culinary capitals of the Caribbean, filled with numerous fine restaurants. But this was different. It was a combination of surprise and culinary ecstasy. And it was glorious.

site? Bonnie’s MoonA beach bar located in the former Calico Jack’s on, once one of the most famous beach bars in the Caribbean. Seven Mile Beach.

Named after female pirate Anne Bonny, this refreshing hotspot has plum perch on a beautiful part of this iconic beach. This beach remains one of the best on Earth and is definitely in the pantheon of Caribbean beaches. (If you’ve been here you know, but if you haven’t, make a plan).

A similar new building is right across the sand. Hotel Indigo (opening in 2024)The place I stayed this week is quite impressive (more on this in the next story) and acts as both a standalone beach bar and the hotel’s de facto beach club.

It’s a beautiful design, with a wooded, chic shack aesthetic, plenty of loungers and a bar that’s always buzzing with energy.

But there is food. What I learned shortly after eating fried spinach with current chef Kalalu is, Charlene Dionis a veteran of numerous Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, and has brought its culinary magic to this beachfront kitchen. And I don’t underestimate how incredibly good those fries were. An incredible fusion of sweetness and spice, crunchy on the outside and deliciously soft on the inside, all combined with vibrant, spicy aioli.

Next came the food, which looked almost pedestrian. It was a Caesar salad with sea bream fillet.

But the results were also absurd. Some of the most perfectly prepared fish I’ve ever had, on an expertly crafted Caesar bed, was almost impossible.

I’ve written on these pages about the best restaurants in the hemisphere, multi-course meals that can rival any Michelin restaurant on the continent. I can’t believe I’m writing this about fries and fish salad. But it was really delicious. And that was just a small sample of the impressive and diverse menu that shows why foodies always flock to the Cayman Islands.

It is not an exaggeration to call this ‘. The best new beach bars in the CaribbeanAnd then there’s the best restaurant and toe-in-the-sand beach bar to open in the area in years.

The Joy of Seven Mile Beach

And then there’s the coastline. Anyone who has been to Seven Mile Beach will know this. The water temperature always seems to be perfect, and it’s so clear it seems to defy science. Soft, endless sand. Some locals say the water here has mystical and therapeutic properties. After rocking out on the sand with a rum in hand for an hour, it’s hard to disagree.

This means that when you combine these beaches with amazingly good restaurants, you really have something.

And that’s the beauty of this place. Of course, you can come here for a memorable lunch or dinner. But you can also bring your flip-flops, find a chair, and spend the afternoon in your living room admiring the ocean views of this legendary Caribbean beach.

The following murals are on the walls of Bonnimun. They discovered an island on the moon.”

I can vouch for this. It is definitely out of this world.
