As a blogger circa 2009, I don’t avoid presenting through process exploration, but I’ll give this as an overview.
My hair is naturally blonde, as you can see now, and as I’ve shared in the past. I worked as a local model when I was in high school, and I also worked as a hair model at a hair styling fair held in my neighborhood for a year or two. My hair was dyed copper and I got a big cut after one of those gigs when I was 16, and some version of that style has stayed with me throughout! ass! 10 years!
That’s right, I dyed my hair once every three months for 12 years. I got an autograph! I loved it, and while I was building the blog, one of the things people universally commented on was my red hair. Still, I got the feeling that at some point I wouldn’t keep it anymore. I wondered what could cause such a big change in my appearance. Answer: A fucking global pandemic.
Jevins encouraged people to listen to provocative thoughts in order to shave their heads. We are no strangers to leaps in personal appearance, place or time. We spent most of 2020 social distancing with his family in Idaho, visiting his aunt one last time and helping his mother move out of her childhood home. Live life once. Try it. So, with his help, I put all my hair into a ponytail between scissors. Early one morning right after New Year’s, we shaved off all our red hair in our apartment bathroom. Later, when I looked in the mirror, I saw my mom. When I was in high school she shaved her head.
Here’s my year for you! I started seeing a therapist and found myself reverting to not handling isolation well. I think I will spend the rest of my life uncovering the details. Meanwhile I wore cotton, linen, and gold.
