You’re walking down the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan, past weathered blue stones and iron balconies, your footsteps echoing off the walls. The air carries the salt of the harbor and the low murmur of voices flowing out of open doors. Then the piano line is clean, practiced, and steady reaching the streets.

Follow it towards the narrow entrance near Banco Popular Plaza. Inside, the light softens, the room becomes more compact, and music fills the space. The glasses capture the reflection of the bar. Dialogue is lower. A voice close enough to be felt from the table joins the piano.

The name written on the door is the name of the next person. Karli MuñozAnd the room reflects his career long before it reflects the menu.
Muñoz grew up in Puerto Rico and built his musical life on the jazz circuit and on international tours. His resume includes periods of time serving as: beach boysWith a diverse list of collaborations across genres. This skill shows in his playing. It’s a change in tempo that’s controlled, detailed, and gets you exactly where you need to be.
When he opened Carli’s in Old San Juan, his goal was simple. The goal was to create a place where the piano leads the evening.
Nearly 30 years later, this approach remains the same. Many nights, Muñoz still plays his instrument during dinner, setting the tone of the room one set at a time.

The tables are clustered around the piano, close enough to hear the mechanics of the keys: the weight behind each note, the pauses between phrases. There is no separation between performers and restaurants. Music plays at every table, from the first to the last seat.
The set list changes depending on the night. Jazz standards come first, followed by familiar songs from the ’60s and ’70s. Some tables quietly follow. Others settle deeper into their seats and let the rhythm flow through the room.
The sound travels to every corner, including the bay terrace just beyond the railings.

The kitchen operates in the same rhythm as the room.
Everything is prepared to order, allowing you time to settle in before your next course arrives. Start with small dishes that come out reliably and precisely. Cocktail and the Terrace
The bars maintain the same focus.

The room opens onto the terrace. san juan bay. The boat moves slowly on the water. The piano still extends outward, now more gently, as it is carried through the doorway and across the table.
