Tiger Woods: ‘Golfer needs to step aside and receive treatment’ after crash arrest

The PGA Tour also issued its first comment following Woods’ remarks.

“Tiger Woods is a legend of our sport whose impact extends far beyond his accomplishments on the course.”

“But above all, Tiger is a person and our focus is on his health and well-being. We continue to have Tiger’s full support as he takes this important step.”

“Tiger Woods is one of the most influential figures in sports,” said Brian Rolapp, CEO of the Golf Association.

“Over the past year, I have come to have a deep appreciation for Tiger, not only for his impact on the game, but also for his friendship and perspective he shared with me as I joined the golf industry.

“My thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step. I have my full respect and support for him.”

Last week’s accident was the latest in a series of incidents that have peppered Woods’ recent years.

His marriage, as well as his lucrative endorsement deals, ended in 2009 after he hit several fire hydrants, trees and fences outside his home in an incident that sparked allegations of extramarital affairs.

Then, in 2017, he pleaded guilty to reckless driving and was sentenced to one year of probation. It came after police found Woods slumped over the driver’s seat of his car near his home. A toxicology report found that he had several legal drugs in his system and the active ingredient in marijuana.

In 2021, Woods survived a serious accident that left him with serious injuries. He has since had multiple surgeries and played only a limited schedule.

Last week, he competed in the TGL Indoor Golf League after undergoing additional back surgery and an Achilles injury. This was my first time competing in a golf tournament in over a year.
