Tiktok is closing Tiktok Notes, an instagram competitor on May 8. The photo sharing app, which started in testing in Canada, Australia and Vietnam last year, has a photo sharing app.
The company informs the user of the decision that Tiktok has decided to retire the app and instructs them to LEMON8 owned by bytedance. This is not surprising considering that the app is very similar and provides the same type of function.

Tiktok did not provide certain reasons for terminating the app, but the company did not adopt a lot of adoption of Tiktok Notes and decided to push the Lemon8 with about 12.5 million worldwide active users as of December 2024.
Tiktok said that the decision to terminate the app in the notice of Tiktok was “not made lightly.” This notification is recommended that the user downloads and stores the Tiktok memo data and “continues to share creativity in Lemon8”. LEMON8 began in Japan in 2020 and has expanded to markets across the United States and Southeast Asia. This app is similar to Instagram and Pinterest. The user can find the content by sharing slide shows, photo collections and exploring content with “Follow” and “For You” feed. LEMON8 provides users with access to creative tools, filters, effects, stickers, text templates, etc.
Tiktok is promoting LEMON8 as an alternative to Tiktok Notes, but BYTEDANCE also attempted to deploy the app as an alternative to Tiktok itself in the face of US ban.
In November, the company allowed users to access LEMON8 directly with a Tiktok account, and launched the ability for users to cross -sharing photos between apps. In case Tiktok disappeared, BYTEDANCE seemed to move the creator to a new platform without having to join separately.
Going forward as soon as today, Tiktok continues to promote LEMON8 in the app facing a new ban on April 5.
