Apple CEO Tim Cook has been selected as the next technology executive to donate $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural committee. Axios. Cook’s donation follows similar pledges by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Meta through Amazon, as the tech giants and executives seek to curry favor with the incoming administration.
Cook famously built a personal relationship with Trump during his first term that other tech CEOs are eager to emulate. He was one of many who congratulated Trump after his Election Day victory. Axios Cook reportedly met with Trump at Trump Tower and his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
An unnamed source tells us Axios “Cook, a proud Alabama native, believes that the Inauguration Ceremony is a great American tradition and is donating to the Inauguration Ceremony in the spirit of unity.” Apple “is not expected” to donate to the inauguration. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
