“I think it’s great. I’ve lived here for almost 20 years, so I understand the pulse of the city. I can feel the excitement of this derby just driving to work and it’s great for both of us to be there,” he said. Sky Sports News.

“I have enormous respect for Dundee United as a football club and a real respect for Jim Goodwin as a manager.

“I'm looking forward to getting back out there because I know how important it is to the city, but my biggest concern is Dundee and improving on last year.

“This is a very exciting match to start the campaign and one I want to do well in.”

“This time last year I was sitting and we hadn’t progressed to the next stage of the League Cup,” he added.

“This season we were the first to qualify, taking 12 points from 12 games, scoring 18 goals and conceding two.

“For me it's progress and as a manager of a football club what I want to do is to improve the football club every year and I think we've definitely done that.

“We will recruit players who value quality over quantity. I think all five players we have recruited are first-team starters.

“There are players coming into the building soon, but there is still a month left in the transfer window and it is important to bring in good players as well as good people who fit into the dressing room.”
