Medellín is Colombia’s second largest city and the most popular city among digital nomads. Nestled in the Aburrá Valley, the city has great weather all year round, earning it the nickname “City of Eternal Spring.”

I spent a lot of time in Medellin. Although the city has a troubled past, today it is a vibrant and innovative metropolis. I will go back right away. (Take at least one salsa class while you’re here!) The city continues to grow and develop each year.

However, safety concerns remain, so choosing the right hotel and location is important. To ensure a safe and comfortable visit, here is a list of the best hotels in Medellin:

1. Nomada Hotel Origen

Cozy room with wooden floors, exposed brick walls and large windows opening onto greenery in Medellin, ColombiaCozy room with wooden floors, exposed brick walls and large windows opening onto greenery in Medellin, Colombia
This 4-star hotel is located in El Poblado, in the heart of restaurants, bars, clubs, cafés and shops. There’s plenty to do in the area, but spend some time lounging in the hot tub on the leafy hotel’s rooftop, a cocktail in hand and enjoying spectacular views of the city (it’s a great way to end a busy day of exploring). Complimentary breakfast is served on the rooftop, so you can start your day there too.

Rooms are comfortable and spacious, with stylish design including exposed brick walls and beams, hardwood floors and soft lighting. All rooms feature a desk, a flat-screen TV and a minibar. Deluxe rooms feature a kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, stovetop and coffee maker. The bathroom has tiled walls and floors, a shower with great water pressure (something I always appreciate) and complimentary toiletries. This hotel is my most recommended hotel in the city as it offers the best value for your money. It’s also in a good location.

2. Click Clack

This 5-star design hotel is one of the coolest places to stay in El Poblado. There are sophisticated buildings and plants everywhere, creating an atmosphere where sophisticated industry meets nature. I love that the included breakfast is served in a huge atrium with lots of light and greenery. There is also a rooftop pool with its own bar serving great cocktails, and spa/massage services are also available. Whatever you need, WhatsApp is available at the front desk. I think it’s really convenient (especially if you’re jet-lagged or tired from sightseeing).

All rooms have a desk, flat-screen TV and safe, but we especially like the free minibar stocked with healthy snacks from local Colombian producers. The stylish bathroom has a dark and gloomy feel (maybe a bit dark in my opinion), but the walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead is also great. If you’re looking for the trendiest hotel in one of Medellín’s best neighborhoods, this is it!

3. Ibis Medellin

This 3-star hotel is located in the artistic Ciudad del Rio area, just steps from the Medellín Modern Art Museum. It’s also less than a block from the Mercado del Río, the largest food market in town. The bright and airy hotel serves a buffet breakfast featuring fresh local fruits and baked goods. Standard check-out is by 12pm, so we love that we don’t have to worry about rushing out in the morning (perfect if you’re out to enjoy the city’s wild nightlife).

You might think the rooms are too rare, but they include the usual mid-level perks like desks, flat-screen TVs, and closets with safes. The bathroom is a good size with a large vanity (you can spread things out) and free toiletries. This is a good choice for anyone looking for a pleasant (but unpretentious) stay in an interesting part of the city.

The hotel is located on the laid-back Patio Bonito, full of stylish restaurants and bars popular with Medellín’s expat and digital nomad community. The hotel boasts a rooftop pool and jacuzzi, a reading room in the lobby, a small fitness center and laundry facilities. A delicious breakfast buffet is served, including a variety of sweet breads and pastries, fresh juices, yoghurts and eggs cooked to order.

Accommodations include spacious deluxe rooms and apartments, all featuring kitchens with a stovetop, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and minibar. All rooms have a simple yet cozy feel, with nice wooden floors, artwork by local Colombian artists on the walls, a desk, and a flat-screen TV. The apartment also has a private terrace. The bathroom is a good size with free toiletries and a rain shower head with excellent water pressure. Considering its location and kitchen facilities in all rooms, Sites is perfect for mid-range travelers staying in Medellin for an extended period of time.

5. Courtyard of the World

Cozy room with double bed, desk, tiled floor and sliding doors opening onto patio with hammock at Patio del Mundo, boutique hotel in Medellin, ColombiaCozy room with double bed, desk, tiled floor and sliding doors opening onto patio with hammock at Patio del Mundo, boutique hotel in Medellin, Colombia
If you’re looking for a hotel that’s smaller than many high-rise hotels, Patio del Mundo is a boutique hotel with just 13 rooms. There is always free coffee and fresh juice in the lobby, and the owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. I love the tropical garden and patio filled with hammocks, loungers, and a hot tub right on the deck. We also love that you can start your day with a complimentary breakfast buffet featuring fresh fruit, juice, croissants, pancakes, and freshly made eggs. While you eat, keep an eye out for hummingbirds!

Each room is inspired by a different region of the world (a really neat concept). Brazil, Provence, India and Cuba are just a few examples of the variety of rooms available. Each has its own unique features. Some rooms have private terraces, while others have deep soaking bathtubs. All rooms feature a flat-screen TV and minibar, and most also include a desk. The bathroom includes free toiletries and a walk-in tiled shower. The hotel focuses on health and wellness, so you can also get a massage or Reiki session. Overall, the hotel feels like a small green oasis in the city.
