Toronto police charged in drug and corruption probe

Eight Toronto police officers have been charged in an investigation that began after a prison administrator was targeted by three assassins. The investigation uncovered a criminal network and links to police officers accused of involvement in organized criminal activity and drug trafficking.

“Criminal corruption charges include bribery, obstruction of justice, drug trafficking, theft of personal property, breach of trust, and unauthorized access and distribution of confidential information. We believe that our members performed their jobs effectively, were ethical, and maintained complete integrity in their positions, and that these actions, namely their commitment to integrity in their positions, contributed to the criminal conduct committed against them. We are alleging that some of our officers illegally collected and distributed personal and private information to members of their organization. This is ultimately a serious threat to our community. The damage was done.” “This is a painful and disturbing moment. Organized crime is corrosive and it is unacceptable that it has infected our services.” “The investigators involved held up a mirror in the face of the criminal justice system and police agencies to uncover the truth.”
