Thomas Frank has revealed that Tottenham duo Jed Spence and Mickey van der Ven have apologized for ignoring the manager at full-time following Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea.
Spurs were booed at full-time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before Frank approached players on the pitch and recorded an xG (expected goals) figure of 0.05, their lowest since Opta records began in the 2012-13 campaign.
Stand-in captains Van de Ven and Spence headed towards the tunnel and although Frank appeared to thank the home support, they passed the Denmark manager who was looking at them before turning to applaud the crowd.
Sky Sports News I understand what Frank and Spence said after the game and their interaction on the pitch at full time was more of an indication of their frustration with the loss than anything else.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen, Frank elaborated further on the situation.
“Micky and Djed came to my office yesterday and said they wanted to apologize for the situation. They didn’t want it to seem bad or rude,” he said.
“It was not an intention towards me, the team or the club. They were just frustrated with the performance, the loss and the boos during the game.”
