The chairs were arranged chronologically to showcase India’s seating traditions from pre-colonial times to modern times and highlighted global art movements that were popular in India. Their designs also opened a window into the colonial invasions of India by the Netherlands, Portugal, France, and Britain between the 16th and 19th centuries.
