North Korea is expected to reopen to limited international tourism later this year, marking the end of a nearly five-year lockdown due to the pandemic.
Beijing-based Koryo Tours and Shenyang-based KTG Tours each announced the news, with Koryo Tours saying it plans to resume North Korea tours this December and KTG Tours advertising on its Facebook page that it will resume tours in the winter.
Early tour groups may visit Samjiyeon, a city located near the Chinese border. Samjiyeon is near the Baekdu Mountain volcano, a popular destination for tour groups.
Tour dates, itineraries and prices have not yet been finalized. Koryo Tours said more information is expected in the coming days and weeks.
KTG Tours hinted that it may soon receive confirmation to expand its visit to Pyongyang and other parts of North Korea.
