Tristan Sailor: St Helens sign son of Brisbane Broncos cross-code player Wendell Sailor for 2025 | Rugby League News

Tristan Sailor, son of cross-code international Wendell Sailor, is set to join St Helens on a two-year contract ahead of the start of the 2025 Betfred Super League season.

The 26-year-old outside back will join the Brisbane Broncos at the end of the current season, joining the nine-time NRL champions under new head coach Lee Briers.

Sailor began his career at his father's former club, the St George Illawarra Dragons, and thanks to his former teammates, he already knows what to expect at Totally Wicked Stadium.

“I’m really excited to be joining St Helens,” said Sailor. “When I was at Dragons, James Graham told me all about the English fans, and Saints fans in particular, and how passionate they are about rugby. I’m really looking forward to it.

“I have always had aspirations to play at the highest level in England and being able to do that is a huge draw for me and I am very grateful to Saints for giving me that opportunity.

“Winning trophies has always been a big goal of mine. I was in the expanded squad with the Broncos last year and they went to the Grand Final but unfortunately fell short. Looking at the history and success of the Saints I am sure they will help me achieve what I want to do.”

Sailor provides a versatile option in the back four for St Helens and, like homegrown talent Jack Welsby, can operate as either a full-back or a stand-off.

Saints boss Paul Wellens is in no rush to decide where Sailor will be best utilised and is excited to see what the Australian can add to the team.

“First of all, Tristan is an exciting player,” Wellens said. “He's got attacking talent and he's a player that the fans will be looking forward to watching.

“He is a determined player and he is coming because he wants to be part of a successful team. I am sure he will come in and improve our team.

“He could play at full-back or at No. 6, similar to Jack, which gives us options but we don't have to decide too early where he plays. What we do know and are confident of is that he will add a lot to our team.

“Tristan has played in some important games and he remains young, hungry and focused on success. We want to help him achieve his ambitions and are confident he can do so at St Helens.”
