
The event will be held in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, at a location that has yet to be determined. Trump wrote that Fox News’ Bret Baier and Martha McCallum will be the moderators and that the rules will be similar to those for the Biden debate.
“If Kamala is unable or unavailable for the debate that day for any reason, I have agreed with Fox to hold a large town hall meeting the evening of September 4th,” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
Mr. Biden dropped out of the presidential race on July 21, saying it was “in the best interest of the party and the country.”
His decision follows weeks of speculation about his health following his inconsistent debate performances with President Trump and subsequent public blunders.
He endorsed Ms. Harris, who was formally nominated as the Democratic nominee on Friday with the support of the Democratic establishment.
At a campaign rally in Atlanta on Wednesday, Ms. Harris challenged Mr. Trump to a debate with her, telling him, “If you have something to say, say it in front of me.”
