According to Bloomberg, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell convened bank executives for a meeting this week to encourage them to use Anthropic’s new Mythos model to detect vulnerabilities.
In fact, JPMorgan Chase is the only bank listed as one of the initial partner organizations with access to the model, while Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley are also reportedly testing Mythos.
Anthropic announced the model this week but said it will limit access for now, in part because Mythos is so good at finding security vulnerabilities despite not being specifically trained in cybersecurity. (Others have suggested this is either hype or simply a smart corporate sales strategy.)
This report is especially alarming because Anthropic is currently fighting the Trump administration in court over the Department of Defense’s designation of Anthropic as a supply chain risk. The designation comes after negotiations broke down over the company’s efforts to limit how the government uses its AI models.
Meanwhile, the Financial Times reports that UK financial regulators are also discussing the risks posed by Mythos.
