Turkish Airlines, which flies to more countries than any other airline in the world, has ordered 230 Airbus aircraft and has secured purchase rights for an additional 125 aircraft.
The order will allow Turkish Airlines to augment and modernize its current fleet of 435 main and regional aircraft, enabling it to achieve its goal of more than doubling its passenger capacity to over 800 aircraft within the next 10 years.
“The addition of this Airbus aircraft will further enhance the airline’s ability to connect Turkey to the most remote corners of the globe, providing our passengers with more destinations and travel options,” the airline said in a statement on Monday.
The firm order includes 150 Airbus A321neo aircraft, Airbus’ largest narrow-body aircraft. It also includes 80 wide-body aircraft, split between 60 A350-900s, 15 larger A350-1000s and five A350F freighters.
Turkish Airlines has secured purchase rights for 100 A321neo, 20 A350-900 and five A350F.
Turkish, a Star Alliance member, said in a presentation to investors last month that it now has 344 destinations in 129 countries. Its goal is to fly to more than 90% of global megacities by 2033.
Current Turkish Airlines destinations within the United States include Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston Bush Intercontinental, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Detroit, Boston, Newark, New York JFK, Washington Dulles, Atlanta, and Miami.
