Promoter Eddie Hearn is open to renegotiating the Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury contract if there is a ‘beneficial reason’ for the fight to take place in the US.
Hearn reiterated that Joshua has signed a contract for a heavyweight fight with Fury, which stipulates that the fight must be held in the UK.
But Turki Al-Sheikh, who is financing the blockbuster fight in England, confirmed that no decision had yet been made on the venue and that the United States had emerged as the most likely venue.
“Turki Al-Sheikh is paying for it and it is extortionate so we have to work for him,” Hearn told Sky Sports.
“But we have signed a contract to play in England and it is very clear in our contract that the game has to take place there.
“Now, if there is another reason why it might be more beneficial for us to do it in the United States, we will have that conversation. There is no request for that at this time.
“AJ was very insistent that the fight take place in the UK and that’s why we put it in the contract.”
No date or location for the fight has been officially confirmed, but Fury’s promoter Frank Warren exclusively told Sky Sports earlier this week he was adamant that the fight would take place at some point in late 2026.
Fury is set to return to the ring in Dublin on August 1 ahead of his meeting with Joshua, but has yet to reveal his opponent.
Hearn also added that the terms of the contract would not delay the fight if renegotiation was needed.
“That’s what he wants to do because of his working relationship with Turki Al-Sheikh,” Hearn said.
“We will enjoy the conversation, but if not we will continue the fight in Britain.”
Joshua is scheduled to face Albanian Kristian Prenga in Jeddah on July 25 and declared earlier this month that he is stronger than ever.
Hearn said no contract negotiations would stand in the way of Joshua getting a win over Freenga, explaining:
“I didn’t bring him into the conversation until he had to make a decision.
“And there isn’t even a request for that at the moment.
“Joshua is in a good position. I’ve never seen him so focused. His conditioning is great and he’s ready for a big fight because if he doesn’t win on July 25, none of this really means anything.”
“So, getting through that fight is the only thing that really matters. We’ll take care of everything else for him.”
