As Uber gears up for the summer travel season, the company announced a new feature Tuesday aimed at streamlining riders’ planning process, giving users a convenient way to search for destinations in other cities and book rides in advance before their plane lands.
Uber's new feature aims to meet the surge in summer travel and make it easier for travelers to arrange transportation long before they arrive. Airlines for America predicts that about 271 million passengers will fly worldwide between June and August, compared to 255 million last summer. The feature has been a popular request from passengers for a long time, according to the company.
Now, when users plan a ride, they can select the “Search in another city” option and enter their desired destination. The most useful part here is the booking function, which allows travelers to schedule a pick-up time at a location that they will be traveling to that day or 90 days in the future. Uber also provides estimated wait times and costs for rides at local airports and within various cities.
This new feature is available in over 10,000 cities, including Athens, Buenos Aires, Dublin, Florence, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Santo Domingo, Sydney, Tokyo and Vancouver.
Uber launched this feature today, along with several other features, including a partnership with Flying Blue that allows members to earn miles, additional bookings for its “Uber Bubbles” product that lets visitors to Paris book a champagne tour, and a free one-hour cruise experience on the Pont Marie.
