UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemns Iran attack after Israel ban

Israel launched a military operation in Gaza on October 7 in response to unprecedented attacks on southern Israel by Hamas militants, during which some 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.

A total of 41,689 people have been killed in military operations in Gaza since the attack, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

During the course of the conflict, there were several clashes between Israel and the United Nations over the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

There has also been conflict between Israel and the United Nations over the role of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

In January, Israel alleged that a number of the agency’s employees were involved in the October 7 attack.

In response, the agency launched an investigation. A number of international funders withdrew their support for it and later restored it. In August, nine employees were fired for possible involvement in the attack.

During the conflict, UNRWA criticized Israel for airstrikes in the Gaza Strip that killed staff.
