US airstrikes Iran after cargo ship attack

In response, U.S. Central Command said it struck missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar positions last Friday. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) criticized the United States and Israel.

Asked shortly before the strike was announced whether the United States would strike back at Iran, Trump said, “We’ll see.”

U.S. Central Command (Centcom) described the strike as a “robust response” to drone attacks.

“Iranian forces’ unprovoked attack on commercial vessels is a clear violation of the ceasefire,” the Iranian military said in a statement.

Centcom said the U.S. military “will continue to provide safe passage coordination and support for merchant vessels transiting the Strait.”

At this time, it is unclear whether the U.S. attack was isolated or part of a larger, ongoing response.

“If the attack is repeated, our response will be more extensive,” he added.

The IRGC also accused the “Zionist regime” (referring to Israel) of violating the ceasefire in Lebanon.

This comes as Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement for a peace plan in Washington on Friday. Despite the recent ceasefire, limited fighting continues in southern Lebanon between Israeli forces and Iran-backed Hezbollah.

Tehran has effectively closed the strait since the US and Israeli attacks on Iran began in late February.

“But violence will be met with violence,” he added.

“You will find out,” he said. “I don’t like the fact that they shot yesterday. They shouldn’t have done that.”

When asked why he thought Iran would carry out such an operation, President Trump simply replied, “They are a little different.”
