A U.S. immigration officer fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday, sparking a major conflict between federal and local officials over the details of what led to the incident.
Trump administration officials claimed the woman, identified as Renee Nicole Good, was a “violent mob” who tried to run over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, and that one agent fired “defensive fire” at her vehicle.
But city and state leaders, and Democrats nationally, dispute that explanation.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told ICE agents to “get out of our city,” claiming they “recklessly used their power to cause someone’s death.”
It appears that multiple videos were posted on social media by bystanders of the shooting incident, which occurred around 10:25 local time.
From multiple perspectives, a maroon SUV can be seen blocking a residential street in Minneapolis. A crowd of people who appear to be protesting line the sidewalk.
“Send them back where they came from,” Trump wrote on Truth Social last December. He also withheld federal child care funding to the state of Minnesota in response.
The Trump administration has deployed ICE agents to other cities as well, all as part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration in the United States.
