Iva Jovic, 16, became the youngest American to win a women’s main draw match at the US Open since 2000, defeating Poland’s 2023 Australian Open semifinalist Magda Linete 6-4 6-3 on Monday. Jovic will now face No. 29 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

“I practiced with her once in France and I think it's a good opportunity for her because she's out on the court like me. She has nothing to lose playing in front of her home fans. It's a good opportunity for her,” said Andreeva, who beat Camila Osorio 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to advance to the second round.
“I don't know how she plays or what she is like as a person. I just think she can play very well here. She can play great tennis.”
