The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is withdrawing a public health warning issued April 1 for Walmart Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets manufactured by Dorada Foods with a “best by” date of “February 10, 2027” after finding that the products do not pose a public health concern.
The public health alert was originally issued based on routine surveillance sampling conducted by the New York State Department of Public Health, which indicated increased trace levels of lead. Because this product is commonly consumed by children, FSIS has issued a warning to inform consumers of the potential hazards.
Following the warning, the New York State Department of Public Health and producer Dorada Foods conducted additional sampling. As part of that process, the original lot and additional lots of product were tested.
All subsequent tests, including the original lot test, found no elevated levels of lead in the product.
FSIS then worked with the New York State Department of Health to review the underlying laboratory data and determined that the initial results were false positives caused by sporadic lead contamination in the laboratory during analysis rather than contamination in the product itself. Subsequent testing confirmed that no high levels of lead were present in any of the products tested.
Therefore, FSIS has concluded that the product does not pose a public health concern.
